They typically come with creepy stories that attract people with insatiable curiosities about everything eerie. Here are the top dark tourism destinations from around the world:

1. Pompeii, Italy

Lying at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, the city of Pompeii attracts many dark tourists every year. In 79 AD, the volcano erupted engulfing the ancient city in volcanic ash and killing every living thing in its path. Pompeii’s almost perfectly preserved nature due to the volcanic ash gives us a very good look into how life was in this Roman town. When you think of Paris, what typically comes to mind is romance and love. At the end of the 18th century, Paris was beginning to be overpopulated and struggled with taking care of the dead. It was then that authorities decided to transfer the deceased underground. One of the deadliest catastrophes in the world occurred in Hiroshima, Japan near the end of WWII. An atomic bomb dropped by the US Army Air Forces decimated the city killing more people instantly than any other man-made tragedy in the world.
